Lights, Camera, NEW YORK!

So, for the ever-lovely Taylor's birthday, we took a trip to....... NEW YORK CITY! *both bloggers jump up and down and squeal in undignified manners* So here we are, in the city of lights, music, culture and life! Our first night here and we have already jumped right in to the pulsing stream of action. We checked out The Shops at Columbus Circle, a magnificent mall, if you can really call it a mall (They had a SALVADOR DALI EXHIBIT and a WHOLE FOODS "food court"). The Salvador Dali exhibit consisted of original statues placed throughout the mall. On the second floor they also had a small gallery set up with small sculptures, sketches and multimedia pieces. We had two definite favorite sculptures. The first was "Adam and Eve". We loved his depiction of the human body and the way the snake turned into the heart. The second one we loved was called "Homage to Fashion", fashion being personified by the powerful, curly-haired woman (to whom Taylor compared Tamar).

"Adam and Eve"

"Homage to Fashion"
After having our fill of great art and scrumptious food, we went out to see what excitement we could find on the streets of New York. It was cold out, there were people walking and laughing, and the trees were filled with twinkle-lights. In other words, it was perfect. As we strolled along, Taylor spotted the Holiday Fair in Columbus circle, causing her to wildly jump up and down yelling "Oh my god! Oh my god! The holiday fair!". After getting some curious looks from passers-by, we proceeded to the wonderful smelling, richly lit fair. There was everything there, vendors selling everything from quirky tee-shirts to melt-in-your-mouth french chocolates to original photographs of the City. We walked through with our hot apple cider. Suddenly we came upon what might be the best thing ever: A deluxe Peanut-butter and Jelly sandwich vendor called PBJNYC! It was amazing for several reasons:
1) The owner's name is Salvatore (immediate cool points)
2) He was really, really, really awesome. He only did this as a part-time detour from his photography career. He also had a great sense of humor and provided great service to his customers.
3) The sandwiches ranged from interesting (Peanut butter, blueberry jelly, and graham cracker crumbs) to adventurous (Peanut butter, sliced pears, and blue cheese).
4) He had the most amazing chocolate chip cookies with PB and a walnut! Yum!

Twinkle-lights!

Mmmmmm...spices

Fall Florals

Though the flowers may be growing brown and dry, floral prints can be rocked in any season. Taylor, Tamar and Logan wore florals all in different ways. Taylor went with a bold floral print with cold-weather accessories. The floral is offset by the warm coat and the chunky-knit scarf in neutral colors. The outfit is spunkified by the vintage-esque purse and the kickin' boots. Tamar went with a subtler floral print in softer colors. The pairing with the bird's nest necklace, textured tights and neutral boots and cardigan give it a funky, feminine feel. Logan went with a floral accent which spiced up her otherwise monochromatic look. The scarf made her sophisticated look more playful, youthful attitude.

A Reptilian Theme...

Nagini, Sir Hiss, Kaa, Viper. All snakes. All awesome. Whether they are hanging around a jungle or around the Dark Lord's neck, snakes have always been a symbol of true coolness. In western culture, they represent evil, sin, and cunning. However, in Chinese culture, they represent charm, intuition, and exceptional taste. We, the authors, like to believe that the idea of "snake-ness" is really a synthesis of these two. Tamar was lucky enough to sit through an amazing lecture on genetics and snakes from Dwane and Heather Ard, owners of Twilight Ball Pythons. Tamar was even lucky (yes lucky) enough to be able to hold a carpet python. She also got to name one of the snakes (she named it Alejandro obviously).

Alejandro! (don't call my name)

I'm kind of a parselmouth...

So that night, that fateful night, was the night of the HARRY POTTER 7 PREMIERE! Taylor and Tamar got all decked out to go to the blessed event. Taylor even led cheers in the movie theater (e.g. When I say Severus, you say Snape! and others....). We decided to be counter-culture and go as girls from the noble house of Slytherin. Our dark marks, freehand drawn by Taylor (she is pretty much a boss), show our undying allegiance to the Dark Lord.

We pledge allegiance to the Dark Lord.

AVADA KEDAVRA!

You know how those Slytherin girls are...

P.S. Shout out to our follower, Chris, for the idea for the title of this post!

High-waisted Skirts: Rain or Shine!

Do not tune your television (computer), Taylor and Tamar do have the same skirt! It was a beautiful day out, and Taylor wore this sunny outfit to reflect her (albeit rare) good mood. She wore her high-waisted skirt with a daisy-yellow tee, a casual two-tone bag and flip-flops. Tamar went out in her skirt on a dreary day when all you want to do is curl up with a good friend and some juicy gossip. These new boots (reader be warned: they will be in the next 800 posts) worn with knee-socks combined with the delicate pinstriped blouse give the look a low-key happiness.

It's a beautiful day...

Looking Into the Abyss

Black is always the new black, no matter what anyone says. Ever-flattering, it looks great on any body type, with any accessories. Taylor looks like an indie band-member, with her all black ensemble composed of flirty, yet subtle pieces. Tamar went in a different direction, choosing to break up the black suede and velvet with gold and white accents. Both looks are demure, full of Parisian allure.

Indoors, Outdoors, All Around...

Whether outside among the changing greenery, or inside enjoying a toasty drink, fall has pervaded everyone's wardrobes. Taylor hearkens back to a warmer climate with her fun floral, but warms it up with some knee-highs and a light jacket. The sneakers complement the sweater and give the outfit a little vintage funk. Tamar went with a cozy outfit made of a boyfriend sweater and textured tights. The short skirt and feminine wedges give the ensemble a little "oomph" to keep it from falling into the cold-weather doldrums.

To learn or to loiter? That is the question.

School: teeming with different personalities, abilities and styles. Taylor (our Taylor) looks like a case of contrariness. You can tell by the skirt that her style leans towards the demure and sophisticated. But the boot-sock combo and band tee tell us exactly what type of mood she's in.... Taylor Johnson, conversely, looks like any teacher's dream student: bright, eager and dressed to a tee. Her classic color mixing (red, white and black always works) looks quite dapper with her funky zebra shoes, giving an otherwise adult look a little bit of youthful flair. Tamar, as always, is dressed for the season. The warm temperature of her outfits, all soft coral and earthy neutrals, evokes the image of warm hearths, hot chocolate and brisk walks through the park.

What are you lookin' at?

Hair, Hair, everywhere!

Taylor and I feel the pain of being curly-girls with unmanageable hair acutely. Thus, when we saw Aimi's adorable hair-do, we couldn't resist taking a picture and sharing it with you. It's a funky take on the messy side bun: equal parts sleek and soft, the tendrils of hair framing her face prettily.

Urban Frolicking

Let's play a game. The scene: It was a beautiful day out, sunny but cool, truly the perfect early-autumn afternoon. Two friends were out and about, walking, talking, laughing etc. These two friends were wearing awesome outfits. Can you guess who they were?...... (time for you to think)....... US! Good job! Taylor looked collegiate-cute in her Harvard sweater (a family sweatshirt, she's not a poser) and floral dress over jeans and her go-to boots, a synthesis of style and comfort. Tamar went in a different direction with her gamine look. The flats, rolled up jeans, lady-like ladybug blouse and red lipstick give her an Audrey Hepburn-ish look circa Funny Face.

Stepping Outside the Box ... Just Kidding

Okay, so we know that this is how like 3/4 of our blogs begin ("So we were having coffee..."), but it really is our main activity. Since it is also how we manage to energize ourselves enough to blog, we should hear no complaints *cricket cricket*. That's what we thought. Sooooooo, we were having coffee after getting Tamar's new camera (if you listen closely you can hear her laughing triumphantly). The ambient light was lovely and we wanted to enjoy the crisp autumn day with eggnog and vanilla lattes. Taylor was wearing a bright ensemble, filled with rich colors and textured fabrics. Her vintage heels (sadly not shown) nicely contrasted the modern feel of her top and purse. Tamar went old-school with a crisp, collegiate look, complete with black turtleneck, high-waisted skirt, knee-high socks, and classic oxfords. In this look she could be sitting on a bench in Cambridge, Massachusetts or Vienna, Austria.

A Study in Pinks and Polka Dots

Polka Dots: the happiest pattern on earth. Seriously. You can NOT look at polka dots and not want to smile. Whether they bring back memories of childhood circus trips or the youthful veneration of Minnie Mouse's impeccable style, no one does not like polka dots. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they wear polka dots. Taylor pulls off the pattern in an edgy way by pairing the jacket with two Union Jack patterned pieces, giving it a bit of punk-rock flair. Tamar took it in a different direction, with an outfit of soft materials and feminine lines. Whether subtle or in-your-face, the unique way we all wear polka dots is found in our accessories, our mixing and matching, and the individual personalities with which we carry them off.

Après l'École

After a tough day at school, we (and Julia) resorted to our favorite escapist method: coffee! We headed to our favorite Starbucks where the baristas know our names and ask if we want "our usual". We talked about everything from school-day woes to film techniques. It was nice to sit amongst friends and sip our drinks, enjoying a rare moment of peace and contentment in an otherwise crazy week. We hope they bring you the same happiness that these moments brought us.

Taylor got tea, Tamar got a vanilla latte, and Julia

Scandalous!

Hello followers,
It's us, Taylor and Tamar, your one and only inside source of the fabulous, scandalous lives of the Myrtle Beach elite.

Spotted: Meg Millure in a fabulous getup consisting of bangin' boots, scandalous stockings, and a mini skirt that would make even Chuck Bass go crazy! The classic hat (that perfectly accents the floral pattern of her skirt) and boyfriend blazer (oh behave!) give her a look that says "you don't know what I've been doing, what I'm thinking, or where I'm on my way to." (Although the blazer is a little telling....) Wherever she's been and wherever she's going, she'll be looking super fabulous.

xoxo, your gossip girls

Sartre, Beret, and Boots! Oh My!

Tamar, being her angsty, existentialist self, was reading "Being and Nothingness" by Jean-Paul Sartre *Tamar swoons and sighs wistfully* *Taylor rolls her eyes* and felt like immersing herself in the culture behind her beloved philosopher. The off-the-shoulder sweater, combined with the cream beret and boots is reminiscent of a French ingénue. The apple is a creation of Tamar's in her (only moderately successful) foray into the art of pottery. The glaze came out wrong, so instead of being a normal apple, it became a fruity statement of muted fauvism.

La pomme philosophique

School's in for Autumn!

Our dear friend Meg agreed to be on the blog after much begging (we asked her once and she agreed). She is one of our loyal followers and we wanted her to be part of the creation! Her mixing of stripes and floral was a risky combination, but turned out super cute! Fall is the perfect time to try mixing patterns, with all the possible layers and accessories like sweaters, scarves, hats etc. We both wanted to steal this belt (it's from a place that begins with "A" and ends with "nthropologie") and thinks it accents the colors in the sweater really nicely. Perfect look for a day of pedagogical endeavors!
step out in the sunlight

We're back in 5, 4, 3, 2....

Sorry everyone (all 3 of our followers) that it took so long to post! We are on our knees in supplication and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive us. Again we found ourselves sitting and drinking coffee, when we realized how cool everyone looked. Our friend Lizzi (blog debut!!!! *wild applause*) looked awesome in her shorts and jacket. Her outfit was perfect for the mildly chilly weather we've been getting. I'm usually not one for combining denim, but she pulls it off looking was cute and casual.
The story of our lives...

Taylor and I were in our go-to weekend outfits. Easy dresses, cute shoes, and a dash of embellishment. Yes, Tamar does know that she has worn these boots in a good majority of these posts (and she is NOT ashamed because they are awesome). Today, Taylor went for funky vintage while Tamar went for off-beat cute.
hello, hello...

Is there anybody in there?...

Afternoon Light & Books on Love

To make up for our serious inconsistency in posting, we are double-posting!!! *raucous cheers from crowd* Soooooo, after our foray into the land of coffee and literature, we decided to go to one of our favorite places in the world, our little oasis, our escape from the mundanity that is life: Anthropologie! We weren't allowed to take pictures inside the store *cough* *lame* *cough*. On the bright side, Tamar purchased a lovely book with collected quotations about the various aspects of love. She may or may not have bought this after buying it for her sister a year ago, and wishing she had kept it ever since..... Anyways, there were adorable little puppies up for adoption at Anthropologie, as the ASPCA advertised their adoption program. Here's the link if you are considering adopting a pet: http://www.aspca.org/. (woohoo! Go pet adoption!) After gushing over the puppies, we went back outside and saw this fountain and it was just really cool because it was on this little side area, right next to the bustling main street, but it was really quiet there. Alright, we'll shut up and stop telling you and start showing you:
